Welcome to the WCDC 2018 International Participants
We very much look forward to welcoming you to Maynooth in June and hope that whether your travel to join us is from far or near that your participation on the World Community Development Conference is both worthwhile and enjoyable.
International Induction Sunday June 24th
The overall purpose of the induction is to help familiarise international participants with the social, cultural and economic context within which the World Community Development Conference takes place through informed overviews and perspectives and a welcoming interactive process which also seeks to make links with communities, community work and community issues and campaigns.
All international participants are welcome to attend but you are asked to confirm your participation in the induction by registering below before June 2nd in order to facilitate logistics and catering arrangements. Confirmed participants will receive the final programme for the afternoon.
15.00 – Short informal walk through campus and town (optional and weather permitting, assemble outside Iontas Building North Campus)
15.30 – Welcome with music and song and an introduction to the afternoon, it’s rationale and remit – Anastasia Crickley, Induction Chairperson
Ireland – an overview of past, current and future problems and possibilities, Professor Maurice, Devlin Head of Dept of Applied Social Studies, Maynooth University
Northern Ireland – an overview of past current and future problems and possibilities, Caitríona Ruane, former Northern Ireland Minister of Education
Irish art and literature, Caitriona Crowe National Archivist, Writer and commentator
Afternoon tea and refreshments.
In situ small group discussions followed by questions comments and exchanges with panel members
Being part of Ireland – past, current and future problems and possibilities – Perspectives and interactive dialogue with:
- Martin Collins, Pavee Point Traveller and Roma Centre
- Amel Yacef, Chairperson European Network against Racism
- Ailbhe Smith, Feminist Scholar, National Women’s and LGBTI Rights activist
